Velvet Swamp Vase

At the center of the vase sits a crocodile dressed in a suit. Quite an artistic scene, isn’t it?

Depicting an animal in human form is, of course, nothing new in art. Yet the real question to consider is this: when we look at a person, we cannot immediately know their character, but through animals we instinctively assign meanings.

And so the question arises on its own: Why does a crocodile sit in a suit, with a strange and satisfied pleasure?

Confidently displaying its very being.

In its nature, the crocodile is known for its slyness, gliding unseen beneath the water and striking unexpectedly. But here the crocodile no longer hides; it drinks its wine like a figure who has already risen to power. The power belongs to it, there is no need for disguise.

Still, a single candle before it recalls its true essence. The light takes the crocodile back to its real identity: the swamp, the darkness, the slyness. Yet its ego has mastered the art of concealing this truth.

For a single candle cannot destroy the power. But reality, even buried beneath concealment, always remains.

Perhaps, in this work, it lingers right behind the curtains.
