The Poise of the Unfitting Selves Vase
In this four-faced vessel, identity takes the form of stillness. Each figure, part human, part other, rests in perfect balance within its own contradiction. A mask held delicately over a borrowed form; a gaze that aligns too closely, yet belongs elsewhere.
The work explores the quiet tension between empathy and estrangement, between becoming something entirely and remaining entirely apart from it. Set in a vast, reed-filled marsh, the scenes unfold like fragments of an inner theatre. Gold-toned ornaments recall a misplaced elegance, while each mask reflects a self that fits just enough to deceive but not enough to belong.
At its core, this piece contemplates what it means to inhabit a presence that isn’t yours, yet feels almost natural until you realize how far you’ve drifted from the face beneath.
